Welcome to a new week!

It was a very wet and windy weekend for us here, but it was busy nonetheless.  A lot of unpacking done indoors while some clean up went on outdoors.  There is nothing like a few downed limbs to bring together neighbours.

We met our neighbour to the north - a very nice man that helped us with cleaning up our limb before Derek and Nicole and my brother Jamie went next door to help him clean up a downed limb from his garage roof.

I think it might just have been an excuse for these boys to get out their tractors and chainsaws and play.  :)

Erin and the Bunnies

It’s a pretty hard job to use the riding lawn mower because I can’t reach the brakes and we have a big lawn.

But when Nicole was in the front lawn and was mowing she found… BABY BUNNIES! They were so cute and I was able to hold one.  After a while, the one in my arms squeaked and they all ran off in different directions. After a while, they came back to the den. If there mommy never came back in a few days, we… will… get … to… ADOPT THE BABY BUNNIES! I really want to adopt them SO MUCH! J

Update:  Momma Bunny DID come back to tuck her babies back into their den but then moved the whole family during a bad rain storm.  :(

Moving Day

Hi there!

It surprises me just how much 'stuff' one family can accumulate.  It is equally amazing to me that given a three month closing date we still end with a packing frenzy that sees a few boxes of "miscellaneous" make it onto the moving truck.  With the help of our awesome family and friends, we did it.

And true to our way, the "schnicks" had their mishaps.  We pulled through with only TWO bleeding cuts (no stitches required thankfully) and only getting the truck stuck once.  :)

Mama Robin and a nest full of babies watch from their perch as we unload boxes.  This happens to be right over top of Erin's bedroom window - she's excited.

The girls wanted to attend Alexander's Public School for the last day, so the girls and I made the trip into Burlington.  As we said our "keep in touch"es to our friends (because it is hardly goodbye) we were all smiles... until Nicole came out in tears.  Being that she is almost a teenager, that she is a girl and that her classmates had all taken turns saying something nice that they would remember about her, she was a "hot mess".  Sorry - the only way to describe the sight of my eldest that is experimenting with a little makeup these days and is in full crying mode.    Again, we made it through.

Upon returning home, the girls finished unpacking their rooms and I tackled the last few kitchen boxes.  Derek had put together all the bedroom sets and gotten our wi-fi up and running.  Yes - even a family with goals of self-sustainability desire wi-fi.  :)

Now I should point out that the farm needs a little love outdoors.  The grass and trees have become a little overgrown and there was some JUNK (I don't know how else to describe it) left behind.  So, while Derek got the lawn tractor up and running, the girls and I took a walk through the pasture.

Erin collected sticks (which was the big draw for her to play real life minecraft) and Sammy collected daisies and moths... yes, moths.
Krista collected some of the "junk" I had previously mentioned.  :)
After a busy first day, the youngest three were bathed and settled into their snugglies while Nicole helped her Dad tackle the jungle outdoors.  She was quite proud of her driving skills; but then she wasn't one of us pedestrians.  ;)

Its going to be a lot of work... but its going to be good.
